After a week off I am back. I promise my week off had nothing to do with both Virginia Tech and Penn State losing, as well as Virginia winning. What am I kidding it had everything to do with that. I was so upset even I didn’t watch football for half the day on Sunday. Now, I am back to give everybody the games I will be watching. This week is also special I will be doing my first on-site assignment this season. I will be at State College to watch Penn State play Rutgers but will still be wearing a Virginia Tech shirt under many layers to stay warm.
Rutgers vs #14 Penn State
I will be at this game. Penn State needs a win. Unfortunately, their college playoff chances has been for the most part ruined. So what better to cure those woes than a win? This is what I fully expect to happen. Penn State has been undefeated when I attend their games. Now, I know what you are thinking, 1-0 isn’t exactly the biggest trend, but I think it holds some weight. So, you're welcome Penn State fans. Their will we be because of my attendance and couldn't possibly be anything else.
#1 Georgia vs #10 Auburn
So in my anger towards college football, I didn’t realize my dog’s favorite team was ranked number one. I am a bit upset that my dog is an SEC fan but when she is a bulldog, you can see why she likes Georgia. However, I think she is more of a fan of “Uga” than the actual team. That being said, this is a very interesting match up. Jake Fromm is playing incredible for a true freshman and has his team at the #1 spot. I have Georgia winning this game but I do feel it will be a close one.
#20 Iowa vs #8 Wisconsin
Wisconsin is undefeated but only is ranked #8. A lot of this has to do with their strength of schedule. So like Birdman said, they want the College Football Playoff Committee to “Put some respect on my name”. In order to do that they need to beat Iowa this week. This is no easy task. They just took down an Ohio State team that was flying high after their win over Penn State. Iowa is building momentum, and I think they beat Wisconsin, too. Iowa is an underdog that everybody can get behind (sorry my Big Ten Friends with other allegiances).
#3 Notre Dame vs #7 Miami
If at all possible, I highly recommend you watch the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary “Catholics vs Convicts” before watching this game. This was once a very heated rivalry and thanks to the recent deal with Notre Dame and the ACC, we are treated to it once again. Miami is similar to Wisconsin in the fact that they are still undefeated but not cracking the top 5. Notre Dame is back in the national spotlight and want to stay there. I am not a big fan of Notre Dame but as the saying goes “The enemy of your enemy is your friend”. The Irish needs to beat Miami to keep any hope of an ACC championship alive for the Hokies. So with that being said....GO IRISH!
#17 Virginia Tech vs Georgia Tech
I did something terrible last night. Something I swore I would never do. I pride myself in being a realistic Virginia Tech fan. Last weekend when I saw that Penn State and Ohio State had gone down, I started thinking about maybe Tech could be in the College Playoff. I love my Hokies, but I know they are not ready for that stage. I do have full confidence that they will be... but not yet. However, the emotional fan took over the intellectual fan. So when Miami destroyed Virginia Tech I got a bit emotional. It was another poor primetime showing for the Hokies and I was treated to the all too familiar “Sorry about your Team” at work.
This week I am back to be grounded. There is still a chance Virginia Tech can make it to the ACC championship. It’s not the greatest chance but still a chance. It starts with a road game against Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech is usually a tough match up for the Hokies. Virginia Tech has to win this one not only for the ACC championship but because I am turning 30 this weekend and would love to say goodbye to my 20’s with a Hokie win!
Enjoy the college football games this weekend. They are multiple great match ups this week. Not only the ones that I pointed out. Enjoy for Saturday, drink a few cold ones, and your best snacks. Sometimes it can break your heart, but I do love College Football!
