We have made it to the Monday night games. Are you not entertained? Those Sunday games were quite interesting. I am not sure how everyone felt about the penalties called for the games. It would appear that the new rules and referees are doing their part a little too well. There were some exciting games to say the least though. Steelers/Browns was the ultimate ending in a tie. With two games tonight, let's see how I think they will fair.
NEW YORK JETS vs DETROIT LIONS:
The big storyline here is that the Jets will be starting their rookie QB Sam Darnold. Well, the fact that he will be the youngest player to start at that position EVER is the real story. This could be good. This could be bad. The organization has complete faith in him. The Lions, on the other hand, will have a veteran squad returning. If the Lions can unbalance Darnold, they stand a great chance at keeping the Jets offense off the field. If the Jets secondary can work together (since they haven't played together in preseason), they can keep Lions QB Matt Stafford from throwing all over the field to WR Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, Jr., and TE Luke Wilson. The expectations are great for New York, but experience tonight will win out.
LOS ANGELES RAMS vs OAKLAND RAIDERS:
Everyone is questioning the trade of OL Khalil Mack from the Raiders to the Bears. The Raiders are not. They are moving forward with what they have. They have been operating without him since he "held" out for a better contract. QB Derek Carr will have WR Amari Cooper and WR Jordy Nelson for the long ball. Oakland drafted defensive players that they believe will fill the gap that Mack left and improve on the pass rush. The Rams had a season that DE Aaron Donald did not sit out for the beginning of the season. He'll be back with Ndamukong Suh, Marcus Peters, and Aqib Talib on defense. The Rams seem a bit more put together than the Raiders at this point, even though the Raiders have new head coach Jon Gruden.
Los Angeles Rams
That completes week 1 for me. How did you make out? Were the teams and games what you thought they would be for the start of the season? I love to hear from fellow football fans. Good luck to your teams and picks!
